Description
Position Summary:
The Dietitian assesses patient’s nutritional status and plan; implements and/or recommends the appropriate nutritional care for the patient. Provides individual and group nutrition counseling to in/outpatients for diabetes and other diagnoses. Acts as a nutrition information resource for physicians, nursing, other hospital personnel, the media, and the community.
What The Dietitian Will Do
Provides patients and their families detailed individualized nutrition plans for treatment/management of their illness/disease based on completed nutritional assessment. Provides nutritional treatment/management plan to the ordering physician as well as patients’ readiness to change and level of knowledge.Provides nutrition classes in group settings, heart healthy, diabetes classes and clinic as well as other identified programs.Implements the individualized medical nutrition therapy and education based on assessment and plan, including patient goals and follow-up to assess ability to successfully complete goals. Follows clinical care policies. Educates with age appropriate information in a format that accommodates learning style, literacy and cultural factors. Makes appropriate adjustments to diet orders as defined by the clinical policies and procedures and in accordance with the hospital bylaws.Develops, revises and maintains current education materials for patients, families, medical professionals as well as group and community organizations.Participates in continuing education opportunities. Strives to maintain and increase general MNT knowledge base and specialized area of practice. Maintains the AND Professional Development Portfolio.Maintains a current and thorough knowledge of principles, trends and latest research in dietetics and provides nutrition education using various means to medical personnel and the community.Develops policies and procedures for assigned work area to meet all regulatory requirements to maintain certification and recognition.
What The Dietitian Will Need
Minimum Bachelors degree in Dietetics with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics approved experienceMinimum Commission on Dietetic Registration.Preferred Certification in specialty areaExperience as Registered Dietitian in hospital or outpatient setting for one year, preferred
